Match Frais 2026 : Everything You Need to Know About Carrefour’s New Grocery Store Concept in France

You’ve probably heard of Grand Frais, but have you heard of Match Frais?

A similar name, the same passion for fresh products… With one key difference: Match Frais belongs to the Carrefour Group!

With its expansion ambitions in France, the brand could become one to watch in the coming years.

So, what should you know about Match Frais and its development plans?

What Is Match Frais ?

Behind Match Frais is a historic name in French grocery retail: Supermarché Match.

Founded in 1908 in northern France, the company joined the Carrefour Group in July 2024. Today, it operates 115 stores, mainly located in northeastern France.

In 2026, the retailer is taking another step forward with Match Frais, a neighborhood grocery store concept that puts fresh products, regional specialties, and artisanal expertise in the spotlight.

The idea? To recreate the authentic atmosphere of a traditional market, with dedicated butcher, cheese, and fish counters, while offering the convenience of a neighborhood supermarket.

What Is the Difference Between Match Frais and Supermarché Match ?

Same retailer, but two different concepts!

Supermarché Match offers a general grocery selection, including fresh products, pantry staples, and everyday essentials.

Match Frais, meanwhile, places greater emphasis on fresh food and specialist food counters, creating a shopping experience inspired by traditional markets.

The main difference? Fresh products account for 55% of the product range at Match Frais, compared with around 40% in traditional Supermarché Match stores.

Another distinctive feature: Match Frais focuses on retail spaces of less than 1,000 m² and incorporates dining areas, allowing customers not only to shop for groceries but also to pick up ready-made meals.

Two complementary formats with the same ambition: meeting consumers' everyday shopping needs.

Where Did Match Frais Open Its First Store ?

The first store to adopt the Match Frais concept opened on July 3, 2026, in Faches-Thumesnil, near Lille.

It is an existing Supermarché Match supermarket that has been completely redesigned around the new Match Frais concept, with fresh products taking center stage.

Covering 999 m², this location offers a first glimpse into the retailer's ambitions.

With approximately 9,260 product references, the store offers a wide selection of food products.

Another distinctive feature is an 80 m² space dedicated to dining and coworking, extending the customer experience beyond traditional grocery shopping.

A format that combines grocery shopping, dining, and neighborhood services under one roof.

How Many Match Frais Stores Are Planned by 2030 ?

Match Frais has no intention of stopping after its first opening!

The Carrefour Group aims to accelerate the expansion of Supermarché Match, targeting 160 stores by 2030, compared with 115 today.

That represents approximately 45 additional locations across the network, many of which are expected to operate under the new Match Frais concept.

And what about revenue? Each new opening could generate nearly €10 million in additional annual revenue! Source: JDE

The retailer is also considering expansion beyond its traditional strongholds in northern and eastern France. The Île-de-France region is among the areas being considered to support this growth.

Match Frais: Coming Soon to a Neighborhood Near You ?

With its first store opening in July 2026 and its expansion ambitions for 2030, Match Frais is certainly a grocery retail concept worth keeping an eye on.

Its focus on fresh products, neighborhood convenience, and dining options reflects an interesting evolution in food retail. Now, the question is where the retailer will open next!
